Most project cars begin with a plan. Steve D.’s Foxbody Mustang began with a rescue. The Mustang enthusiast says his car was already on a flatbed headed for the junkyard when he saved it from the crusher. Nearly two decades later, that same Foxbody has been transformed into a Coyote-swapped, ProCharged machine making a reported 700 horsepower at the rear wheels.
The story is bigger than the dyno number, though. Steve and his wife tackled the build and paintwork themselves, working out of their two-car garage.
From the Junkyard to a Second Chance
Steve traces the project back to 2007. What could have been the end of the road for the Foxbody instead became the beginning of an extensive front-to-back rebuild. Rather than simply putting the car back on the street, Steve and his wife took on the kind of long-term garage project that many enthusiasts dream about.
According to Steve, the car was built and painted entirely in their home garage. That hands-on effort is an important part of what makes this Mustang special: it represents years of work, learning, and persistence rather than a quick turnaround.
Coyote Power With a ProCharger D-1
The powertrain now features a Ford Coyote V8 swap in the Foxbody platform paired with a ProCharger D-1 centrifugal supercharger. Steve reports that the combination produced 700 rear-wheel horsepower on 12 pounds of boost using 93-octane pump gas. It’s an impressive result for a Mustang that once appeared destined to be scrapped.
Steve also reports that the car has been mini-tubbed, adding another substantial piece of fabrication work to the build.

Built at Home, Together
Plenty of high-horsepower builds have an impressive specification sheet. What stands out about Steve’s is that he and his wife handled the rebuilding and paintwork in a two-car garage. Saving a car from the crusher is one accomplishment; seeing a long-term project through to a finished, boosted Mustang is another.
From a junkyard-bound flatbed in 2007 to a 700-rwhp Coyote-powered build, Steve D.’s Foxbody Mustang is a reminder that the cars worth saving aren’t always the ones that look promising at first glance.
