There is no shortage of impressive Mustangs in drag racing, but this one deserves a closer look. Quarter-Max Racing has unveiled a custom late-model Pro Mod Mustang for J.R. Osborne, a 2025 Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee. The project pairs a purpose-built chassis with a twin-turbo Ford Coyote combination from Fast Forward Race Engines (FFRE).
A Purpose-Built Mustang From Quarter-Max
Quarter-Max has spent decades producing drag racing chassis, suspension components and complete race cars. Osborne’s latest project is a dedicated Pro Mod Mustang designed to handle high-horsepower racing. Chassis geometry, suspension, weight distribution and aerodynamics all have to work together to put the power down.

Twin-Turbo Coyote Power From Fast Forward Race Engines
Rather than a conventional big-block combination, Osborne’s Mustang uses a twin-turbo Coyote built by Fast Forward Race Engines. FFRE, operated by Joe and Gina Irwin, has developed a strong reputation in high-horsepower Coyote racing. Ford enthusiasts may also recognize the engine builder for its involvement with Brett LaSala’s record-setting Snot Rocket Mustang.
The Ford Coyote has come a long way from its production 5.0-liter roots, and seeing one at the heart of a dedicated Pro Mod is especially interesting.

A Hall of Fame Racer Behind the Wheel

J.R. Osborne brings an impressive motorsports résumé to the project. The Colorado racer is a five-time SCCA National Champion, an SCCA Triple Crown winner, and the first American to win a European Superkart race. In 2025, Osborne was inducted into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame.
Road racing and Pro Mod drag racing require different approaches, but Osborne has plenty of experience handling purpose-built race machinery. Now, he has a twin-turbo Mustang for his next chapter.
One Mustang Worth Watching
With Quarter-Max behind the chassis, FFRE supplying the Coyote power and Osborne bringing decades of racing experience, we’re interested to see how this combination performs once it hits the track.
